Day #11 of the 12 Days of Christmas Cookies - Gingerbread Men + Kids Decorating Table

This is probably my funnest (I know that is not a word) post yet. Here we have a cookie recipe + a

holiday activity in one, our Gingerbread men or women decorating station, perfect for the kiddies to

do on Christmas while the adults enjoy some cocktails ;). The gingerbread men can be made in advance and stored in an air tight container so all you have to do is put the candies in dishes and dress the kiddos in aprons, Enjoy!

Ingredients:

  • 3 1/4 cups all purpose white flour

  • 3/4 Tsp. Baking soda

  • 1 Tbsp. ground ginger

  • 1 Tbsp. ground cinnamon

  • 1/2 Tsp. ground cloves

  • 1/2 Tsp. ground nutmeg

  • 1/2 Tsp. salt

  • 3/4 cup (1 and a half sticks) butter at room temperature)

  • 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed

  • 1 large egg

  • 1/2 cup molasses

  • Decorating Ingredients: smarties, colourful candy, icing, colourful gummies, icing sugar, ect.

Directions:

  1. In a large bowl sift together flour, baking soda, spices and salt. Set aside

  1. In the bowl of a stand mixer cream together the butter and sugar till fluffy. Mix in eggs and molasses and beat till well combined.

  2. Gradually add in the flour mixture, allowing to fully combine till adding more. Take dough out of mixer and work with hands on a lightly floured work surface. Wrap in plastic and place in fridge for 2 hours or overnight.

  3. Take dough out of fridge and set on worksurface for 5-10 minutes before use and preheat oven to 350.

  4. Roll out dough on lightly floured surface and cut with cookie cutters. Repeat with scrapes till all dough is done.

  5. Place on greesed cookie sheet and bake for 10-15 minutes or till the edges are browned.

  6. Transfer to cooling rack. Allow to cool completly then decorate till your hearts desire!

Time: 1 hour (not including cooling time)

Yield: 24 -36 cookies depending on cookie cutter size.
